~ Chapter 1 ~

Reign Is The Disciple’s Anticipation

Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him. And He said to her, ‘What do you wish?’ She said to Him, ‘Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your kingdom.’ But Jesus answered and said, ‘You do not know what you ask…to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father” (Matthew 20: 20-23).

All authority belongs to Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18). He is Savior. He is Lord. He is King. As the King, Jesus has a Kingdom that will know no end (Luke 1:33) and a throne to occupy for which every knee will bow (Philippians 3: 9-11). King Jesus saves every repenting sinner, supernaturally securing them “in Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:17), which makes them “join heirs” with Christ (Romans 8:17). How much better can it get? I was that sinner. You were that sinner. Now, what Christ has, we have, for we are “heirs” of the inheritance with Him. Oh, what unspeakable joy we have in Jesus!

Like Zebedee’s two sons, your reality of reigning with Christ in His kingdom is aggressively anticipated. When will you reign with Jesus? How long will it take? The joyful impatience is intense. Your only comfort is to know one fact: Jesus Christ is coming back! In the same manner that He ascended to Heaven, He will descend back to earth (Acts 1: 9-11). Why? Because you, His body (1 Corinthians 12:27), are left here on earth and God’s covenant people, Israel, are not saved. You are to labor faithfully as you wait for Christ’s second coming. Do not delay and disobey. There will come a day in which you will reign with Christ (Revelation 20:6). Be faithful and steadfast.
